September 2005 Auction to Benefit Rivertownes Projects

 November 3, 2004--

Rivertownes PA USA recently commissioned Marietta artist, Suzanne Satterfield, to create a painting of the Veteranís Memorial Bridge as it appeared in 1930 when it was completed.  A 75th anniversary celebration for the structure is being planned for next year.  The mile and one-half long span carries Route 462 across the Susquehanna River and connects Lancaster and York Counties between Columbia and Wrightsville.  When completed it was the longest multiple-arched concrete highway bridge in the world.  It was dedicated on November 11, 1930 to the men and women who serve in our armed forces.

The 24x49-framed original can be viewed in the window of the Columbia Borough Municipal Building, Third and Locust Streets, Columbia, during the month of November; from December through May at the Marietta Restoration Bank Gift Shop, 100 West Market Street, Marietta; and from June through August at the Historic Wrightsville Museum, 309 Locust Street, Wrightsville.  It will return to Columbia in September of 2005 where it will be awarded to the highest bidder at an auction.  Bids may be mailed anytime prior to the auction to Rivertownes PA USA, 495 Kinderhook Road, Columbia, PA 17512.  Include your bid amount, name, address and a telephone number where you can be reached.
